The objectives of the research group SosteniPra are to lead projects in an emerging field: tools for the sostainability and environmental prevention. The group works in the areas of life cycle analysis, ecodesign, ecoefficiency, industrial ecology, material and energy flow analysis applied to industrial, urban and agricultural systems, and also at different levels: process, local, regional, and national. These tools are applied to prioritized sectors such as biomass, agriculture, the chemical industry, waste re-use, urban systems, and industrial productes.

LCA, ecodesign, ecoefficiency, and green purchasing.
This group is involved in projects for the implementation of Ecodesign in the government, such as the creation of guides and databases. Other projects focus on the application of LCA to waste treatment processes and their application in Green Chemistry. The group experience in the field of LCA and ecodesign is the base for the ongoing work in the implementation and definition of green purchasing by public administrations.
During the next few years, this research line will focus on:

Development of databases for ecoproducts and criteria for green purchasing, creating indicators for sustainability in the purchasing of products.

Development for the first time of a Catalonian Ecodesign program: Ecodesign of packaging and urban elements.

In the upcoming years, research and innovation in this research line will focus on:

Adapting indicators for the application to life cycle analysis to agriculture.

Application of the methodology of LCA to the evaluation and quantification of agricultural activity.

Evaluation of the sustainability of energy crops applied to Populus sp and Brassica carinata

Determine new indicators: Water indicator, erosion indicator, and toxicity indicator.
