Current Project
Environmental evaluation, using life cycle analysis (LCA), of the cork industry in Catalonia: forest extraction, industrial production and final management. Demeter. Desarrollo de Estrategias y Métodos vitícolas y Enológicos frente al cambio climático y aplicación de nuevas Tecnologías que mejoren la Eficiencia de los procesos Resultantes, . Co-supervisors: Dr Xavier Gabarrell and Dr. Joan Rieradevall
AIMS
General
Calculate the environmental balance of production processes in the cork sector using the main cork product: the cork stopper.
The environmental balance is calculated using Life Cycle Analysis (LCA).
Specific
Evaluate the environmental impacts associated with agricultural practices in forestry estates.
Study the environmental impacts associated with the transport process: from the extraction of the cork to industrial manufacturing.
Analyse the environmental impacts associated with the manufacturing and production processes of cork stoppers.
Indentify and quantify the global environmental impacts associated with the transport of cork stoppers to potential clients.
Integrated evaluation of the different stages in the life cycle of different types of cork stopper.
Determine the environmental weak points of the cork industry life cycle.
Propose actions for environmental improvement for the different stages of the cork industry life cycle.
