Joan is a Civil Engineer specialized in combining environmental and technological engineering strategies to quantify the environmental impacts associated to urban systems. He obtained his bachelor and master’s degree in civil engineering studies in Barcelona at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), where he had the opportunity to deepen his knowledge in environmental engineering during one year at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). In 2022 he obtained PhD in environmental engineering (UPC), where he studied the energy and material flows of building-integrated agriculture. It is within this 4-year period where he has gained competences on the combined application of environmental and technical engineering to pursue solutions aligned with cities sustainable development. Currently he is a Postdoctoral researcher in Sostenipra group assessing the environmental sustainability of biodegradable and compostable batteries and a Mediterranean biorefinery to boost forest management through the production of added value products.
