Gemma works on the intersections between design, science, and technology, from an industrial ecology perspective. She graduated in Industrial Design Engineer from Elisava Barcelona School of Design and Engineering, and holds a master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Environmental, Economic and Social Sustainability from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). She has worked as a professor and materials researcher in Elisava, and as a consultant expert in ecodesign and life cycle assessment for the private sector. Gemma has been multiple and internationally awarded for her project ‘Photodermis’, a biodegradable garment which generates renewable energy; and has developed other products and material from textile waste. She is currently a PhD candidate in the Sostenipra research group at ICTA-UAB, where she assesses and environmentally quantifies recirculation processes of used textiles.
