Sostenipra participates in the follow-up session of the Pandèmies project

The project “Resilient municipalities to pandemics through the nexus of proximity agriculture, energy, water and waste. From pilot to municipality” is making good progress with success stories. This was highlighted in the latest follow-up meeting of the project that took place at ICTA-UAB on June 7, 2022. The various research groups of the UAB and UPC shared their preliminary results with the panel of experts. They discussed the advances in the pilots on organic waste valorization in schools, the social perception studies on food consumption and urban agriculture, and the environmental analysis of the production and use of reusable and disposable face masks. Also noteworthy are the ongoing experimental studies dedicated to the optimization of the use of energy and nutrients in rooftop agriculture, as well as the emissions of volatile organic compounds.

The synergies among all these pilots and experimental studies will help to understand the potential of cities to become resilient to disturbances such as the COVID-19 pandemic. In light of the constant changes in food, water and energy supply chains, providing solutions at the local level will be crucial to ensure the wellbeing of urban populations.

In the coming months, the first results will be available in the form of publications. You can follow our progress on the Sostenipra website and on the Fertilecity website.
