The FoodE project comes to an end

Led by the University of Bologna, the aim of the FoodE project is to enhance food and nutrition security in European cities.

Employing a co-created mechanism based on citizen science and responsible Research & Innovation, the project facilitates collaboration among public authorities, citizens, SMEs, and non-profit organizations. By implementing systemic food-related innovations and conducting pilot activities, FoodE seeks to measure environmental, societal, and economic benefits of City/Region Food Systems (CRFS), addressing the diverse challenges of European cities and regions.

The FoodE consortium has comprised 8 universities, 5 EU cities, 7 SMEs, and 4 NGOs across 8 EU countries, promoting an interdisciplinary approach. The project included various activities such as: the definition of an operational methodology for the assessment of CRFS; the creation of a database with more than 600 innovative CRFS initiatives (CRFSI); the promotion of a catalogue of networking and cross-pollination between European CRFS; the creation and implementation of an online app (the FoodE App)  for CRFSI review, monitoring, and customer engagement; the tailoring of learning activities for kids, involving 35 schools and 3500 pupils; and the design of a certification standard for CRFSI (the FoodE Label). The Sostenipra research group has participated as partner in this project with a main role in the development and implementation of the FoodE App and the FoodE Label.

On January 15-16, 2024, a Sostenipra delegation participated in the Final FoodE Project Event held in Bologna. The gathering included representatives from all FoodE partners, sharing the latest project results and discussing future exploitation plans after completion.
