We conclude DigiPrime with new developments on electronics and circularity

DigiPrime‘s mission was to develop a digital platform for the circular economy. Sostenipra has contributed with case studies on the reuse of electric vehicle batteries and the remanufacturing of electronic and mechatronic devices for cars.

The DigiPrime project, which received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 program, was led by the Politecnico di Milano. The DigiPrime consortium brought together 36 European organisations, representing six different industrial sectors, with the competence, complementarity and critical mass needed in terms of expertise and resources to ensure the achievement of the project’s objectives and the impact of the results at European level. The consortium is made up of 25 companies, 8 research centers and universities from 11 EU countries; the industrial part of the consortium includes 18 SMEs.

During the last four years, DigiPrime’s mission was to develop a digital platform for the circular economy aimed at a wide range of agents, including manufacturers from various industrial sectors, waste managers, logistics operators and administrations, among others. This platform offers the integrated use of digital services to manage, guide and coordinate the reuse of resources. The activities of the partners mainly included the design and development of the platform and related digital services, their validation in several pilot cases and the creation of various business models.

The Sostenipra group has contributed to the project with case studies on the reuse of electric vehicle batteries and the remanufacturing of electronic and mechatronic devices for automobiles. Our work, which was possible thanks to visits to industrial facilities and the analysis of product samples, has provided valuable information on the composition and disassembly of reused products, and we have validated several information management services and environmental assessment tools. In addition, based on a workshop we organized at ICTA-UAB, we have proposed a methodology to evaluate the possibility of disassembling batteries.

Although the project has ended, it has yet to culminate in the publication of a book that will detail the experience of developing the digital platform and implementing circularity practices assisted by it. Stay tuned for updates!
